East Village Green, downtown's biggest park, nears the finish line at $84M

Downtown San Diego's largest park is nearing completion. The roughly two-acre East Village Green, under construction since the summer of 2022, carries a total cost of $83.9 million after the city appropriated an additional $4.6 million in February to restore its performance pavilion.

The park includes a two-story, roughly 14,200-square-foot recreation center. For a downtown neighborhood long short on real green space, it's a significant addition — and its rising cost is a reminder of how expensive public space has become to build in the urban core.
